Sometimes more intensive training is required and this is where our residential training is useful. It may also be the case that you simply do not have the time to spend training your dog and we can do this for you. Following a short consultation we will be able to advise you whether we can assist. With residential training dogs will spend 3 weeks with us and will receive regular consistent training. The owner will then also be educated on a future training plan to ensure that the improvements are maintained. This has become very popular and a few of the dogs that have come in for training are mentioned on this page and the following page. ![]() Sky, the German Shepherd bitch, came into the kennels for residential training. Sky was not focused and control was minimal. Despite the owner passing the Good Citizen dog scheme Bronze level, Sky was proving to be too much of a challenge. When Sky first came to us she had not been let of the lead for a very long time as she would go ‘wild’ and become distracted and not return to her owner. When we first let Sky off in the field it took us 2 hours to ‘bribe’ her back in. Thank goodness all that exercise made her peckish! We knew we had our work cut out as her concentration levels were limited. Through regular training, first on the lead, we learnt some of the triggers that sent Sky into a frenzy. Some of these were things like a tight lead, too much handling and high pitched (panicked) commands.
She will need to receive regular daily training from her owner if this improvement is to be maintained but she is now like a different dog. Sky still has manic moments, but that is Sky and we don’t want to change that. We have helped dog and owner to work as a team now though. Whether it‘s basic manners, a dog learning to return to its owner, or allowing aggressive dogs to become sociable, if you think we might be able to help you please give us a call. Each case is very different and we are happy to discuss which training method would be most suitable to you. |
